Art Show at Peets

On March 7, our young 2nd and 3rd grade artists got a chance to have their art featured at Peets on Laurel Street. It was a wonderful and fun evening for our school community to gather while taking in the art work from our students. The artists loved seeing their art work on display and LOVED their complimentary hot cocoa!

A huge thank you to the Laurel Street Peet’s for hosting us!

Winter Art Show at Peet’s

Do you need a refuge from all this rain?!

Well, go to Peet’s in San Carlos!

We are excited to announce that Peet’s on Laurel Street in San Carlos has a new Art in Action show: You’ll find 1st grade’s “Winter Landscape” paintings inspired by Pieter Bruegel, and 4th grade’s “Swans reflecting Elephants” artwork inspired by Salvador Dali.

Please come and check out our students’ beautiful art on Peet’s walls, while sipping something festive, like a Cinnamon Hazelnut Latte, for instance!

Thank you, Peet’s, for supporting Clifford School — and showcasing our students’ masterpieces.

(Scroll down for a sneak peek!)

See you there.

–Rachel Winmill and Kay Rim

Editor’s note: Massive thanks to Kay Rim and another Clifford parent volunteer who kindly made this Art Show happen; they removed the previous artwork and hung the new artwork on  various wall spaces available at Peet’s– no small job. Heartfelt thanks from the Clifford community!

Enjoy paintings by Clifford’s 4th Graders now on display at Peet’s on Laurel Street in San Carlos. This artwork was inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Poppies,” and Clifford parent volunteers taught the class through the PTO-funded Art in Action program.

A huge thank-you to the Clifford parents who volunteer their time to carefully hang up the new paintings in Peet’s––and take down the existing artwork–no small task.

A huge thank-you to all the volunteer docents and classroom assistants who also make the time to teach art to our kids!

Spring has sprung at Peet’s on Laurel Street in San Carlos, thanks to the new art show, courtesy of our very own Clifford students. Through the PTO’s Art in Action program, 1st Graders created their own paintings inspired by Monet’s “Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies.”

Clifford Teachers & Staff: We Appreciate You

What a spread: piping coffee––thank you, Peet's––and munchables galore in one of the teachers' lounges
What a spread: piping coffee––thank you, Peet’s––and munchables galore in one of the teachers’ lounges

Clifford parents find ways to thank our teachers and staff frequently during the school year.

During the recent school conference week, a team of parents hosted a brunch.

On Wednesday, March 12th, the upper and lower Staff Lounges were stocked with breakfast and lunch treats, kindly provided by the parents.

The whole arrangement was wonderfully coordinated by parent Anjanette Lundell.

Peet’s Coffee & Tea (2600 Broadway, Redwood City) generously donated all the coffee along with all the necessary fixins.

Thank you, Peet’s.

And speaking of Peet’s, if you haven’t yet, check out the artwork on view at the Peet’s location on Laurel Street in San Carlos. The masterpieces, decking the café’s walls, were all created by our very own students through the PTO’s Art in Action program.

The View: New Display of Our Students’ Artwork at Peet’s

These days, especially when it’s a tad chilly, there’s nothing quite like a steaming cup of Joe or decadent hot chocolate to warm the paws. Plus, a lot of us enjoy beverages even more than normal, when we don’t have to make them ourselves, right?!

So head on over to Peet’s on Laurel Street in San Carlos for something warm (or otherwise). Then sit back and enjoy the masterpieces of Clifford’s artists on display around you––thanks to the PTO’s Art in Action program.

Move over Van Gogh: Clifford’s 3rd Graders present their own version of Starry Night.

Bring your kids along, for instance. They may have fun spotting their class-mates’ paintings or their own. Or they might enjoy identifying artwork from students they know around the campus.

Oh, and don’t forget to thank your barista for supporting Clifford.

Art Class Report

In December 2013, thirty 1st Grade students got in the holiday spirit and created their own winter landscapes, inspired by Pieter Brueguel’s painting, “Winter Scene.” (See photo below.) Students used oil pastels, white paint––and sparkly sprinkles for the snow! Mikey, one of the 1st graders, recalls that  “putting snowflakes was the best part.”

Kay Rim is a parent volunteer and took on the role as docent for this particular art lesson. “I was very lucky to be able to see the magical moment of snowflakes and snowmen bringing smiles to every student’s face,” says Kay. “I truly feel fortunate that our students get the opportunity to learn art through the PTO’s support.”

Special thanks to Clifford’s Art in Action coordinator, Jennifer Fernandez, who does such a wonderful job coordinating all the Art in Action programs and organizing all the art materials behind the scenes. Additional thanks to the parent volunteers who hang up and maintain the students’ artwork on the walls of Peet’s.

Note: Art in Action volunteers for all classes are still needed. If you are interested helping out–we’ll be thrilled with whatever time you can offer–contact Jennifer Fernandez at thefernandifamily@gmail.com.
