Traffic Guards Save Lives – Be a Clifford Hero!

Traffic guards around Clifford are necessary to keep our students, staff and families safe. Currently, the traffic team is short one of its members and the loss has been felt by anyone picking up in the afternoon. Luckily, school staff and administrators have stepped in to help. Even Mr. Lind has been spotted with a stop sign!

If you have some time at drop-off or pickup, please think about volunteering to help with traffic. It is a vital job to keep everyone safe and traffic moving well. Please contact Nanette Silverman.

  1. In the 8 years that I have been helping with Traffic & Safety, we have been very fortunate that an accident has not occurred. In reality, this doesn’t mean that we will remain that lucky especially if we don’t have enough volunteers to help cross our students. I’m sure you have all read or seen on the news how frequently children are being run over on or around school zones. It can happen even if a parent escorts their child across a crosswalk and it can happen to us. Clifford Avenue is a very busy street and not everyone driving on it is a parent/guardian or teacher being cautious. I have personally witnessed inconsiderate drivers who ignore the fact that it’s a school zone, they take no precaution, and continue to speed or not stop at our crosswalks to allow children to cross. Additionally, every afternoon there are many children who run out onto traffic as they play tag or chase a ball while waiting to be picked up. Having only 1 crossing guard at 2 out of 4 of our crosswalks is not enough to enforce safety and cross. The school year started out great with new faces wanting to volunteer their time to help with traffic but within the last few weeks, we have lost 4 traffic guards due to personal reasons. Please, if you have 20 minutes to spare in the mornings or afternoons, let’s be proactive, not reactive before it’s too late, and please consider being a Clifford Hero. Thank you.
